A Confusing Turn of Events

September 26, 2020

Well it seems Devo’s chemo is not controlling her cancer growth. 10 days ago she had a red painful eye that turned out to be uveitis from cancer cells blocking her eye ducts and circulation. Luckily steroid drops eased the pain right away. It is still red but doesn’t seem to hurt. She doesn’t see out of that eye any more.

She also has small lumps growing near her incision site that are also cancerous. She doesn’t love those being touched, but they also don’t seem painful.

So we are very sad.

But she is just herself — chasing apples, enjoying the heck out of food, sprinting after squirrels in the yard. Maybe groaning a little more than usual? It is confusing.

We tried a new chemo drug, doxyrubicin, yesterday. If that doesn’t slow down the lumps’ growth then we’ll be done with chemo and focus on apple chasing as long as we can.

First of all, that’s such a great picture! Everything a out it shows a Happy and contented t Devo thoroughly enjoying the peace of Nature and her bone!
While it’s a bummerabput that poeve of crap disease, clearly Devo is still being Devo! And, regardless of what the follow up tests show, Devo is showing you she is still being Devo and that’s all thatmatters.

So continue with the spoiling, the loving, the extra treats and the joys of apple chasing. Stay fully present and make every moment t the best moment ever….like you have every single day since she picked you!

A little groan here and there may just be a full Happy tumm. If needed, you can give a low dose pain med if those lumps are bugging her.

Keep these beautiful pitures coming. And gove her a scoop of ice cream from me🍨🍨

Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle and Frankie too!

Oh no! I’m so sorry the stupid cancer is being so mean. That’s a heartbreaker, and I know it must be so hard for you guys right now. ((((hugs))))

But that pic of Devo says it all: “Cancer schmancer I’m going to keep on living for as long as I am able!” She is so strong, so spirited, and surrounded by such love, she has everything it takes to fight that disease!!!

Stay strong my friends, and know that we are here for you. Please let us know how the doxo chemo goes (did you know Griffin is pretty much in the same situation). We are sending lots of love!
